Description

About Oktoberfest
On September 26, 2015, Napa Smith Brewery will transform into Munich as it hosts the American Canyon Chamber of Commerce’s Fifth Annual Oktoberfest!  Herren, Frauen und Kinder will gather to eat, drink, mingle, dance, listen to German Polka and dance the Chicken Dance!
There are several contests for which you can cheer or participate. Demonstrate you have the “Best Yodel”; dazzle the crowd with your winning “Chicken Dance”; and cheer on your favorite wiener in the “Wiener Dog Races”. You’ll need intestinal fortitude for the Bratwurst Eating Championship, but not to worry: buy a raffle ticket so you can win one of many wonderful raffle prizes!
There’s something for the kids, too: the free Kinderspeil (children’s) area.  Bounce houses, face-painting and more will engage and entertain.  As always, delicious Bavarian food will be available to purchase along with beer and non alcoholic beverages.  Just remember, last call one hour before the close of the event.
History of Oktoberfest:
Oktoberfest in September?  Yes! The original Oktoberfest in Munich Germany starts its annual celebration the same weekend, the third full weekend in September.

The original Oktoberfest was held this very same weekend in 1810 in celebration of the marriage of Prince Ludwind I and Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburhghausen. They had so much fun it became an annual event which soon transitioned into a two-week open air festival.  Soon it became a major annual German Fall Festival celebrating harvest time and the arrival of the fall season.
So now that you know the history of the Original Oktoberfest, help American Canyon make history!  Pull out your lederhosen and dirndl dresses, gather your family and friends and join us for an afternoon of great family fun!
Calling all Wiener and Almost-Wiener Dogs!
Do you have a dachshunds with a need for speed?  Then bring your adorable little wiener dog out to Oktoberfest and let him/her show their stuff at the wiener dog race competition!  That ‘s right, wiener dog races are back at Oktoberfest this year! There is nothing more adorable than watching these delightful cainines race to the finish line to their owners. Equally delightful are the ones that don’t, and seem to get side tracked along the way.  There is NO ENTRY FEE! Dogs will run in heats of five for 75 feet to their owners waiting at the finish line.  The winner of each heat will compete in a final race to determine the winning dog.  Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.  Enter you dachshunds on line at www.amcanchamber.org and for rules and regulations.
